Sunrise
Sunrise signifies "hope" in the oriental tradition. It also carries on the legacy of our farm which has financially allowed us to start this not for profit corporation.
Potato
Potato reflects both our main crops which are potatoes as well as the other “potato” crop which is the Sweet Potato. Peter worked as a scientist and later as a Board member as well as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the International Potato Center, which had the global mandate for both of these crops as far as Research for Development.
Systems
Systems is a key part of our name as we want to work in a holistic way within a cropping system as well as within a community. Thus our goal is to be much more than just focused on 2 commodities but to look at the whole system of agronomy and economy.
Institute
Institute reflects our strategy of being scientific in our applied research approach for rural development and that we want to be an educational in providing learning experiences for university students as well as other educators from elementary all the way to senior government level policy makers and leaders.
